Arogya Van

From prehistoric times, humans have realised the importance of medicinal plants. Modern as well as traditional medicinal systems like Ayurveda, since ancient times, have been using herbs to maintain health, for wellness treatments and therapies like massages, curing certain conditions and preventive treatments. Recognising the importance of these medicinal plants, Arogya Van (Herbal Garden) is developed near Statue of Unity, which is spread over an area of about 17 acres. Arogya Van exhibits a wide range of medicinal plants and health-related landscapes. The aim of this attraction at kevadia, is to raise awareness about the important role played by plants in the wellness of human beings. Emphasis is also laid on Yoga, Ayurveda and Meditation for being an integral part of a person’s well-being. The entry gate of Arogya Van has all 12 postures of Surya Namaskar of human size, to emphasise on the importance of yoga, which is to be practiced daily for healthy living. Digital information centre has been set-up to acknowledge visitors and make them understand the heritage and the importance of medicinal plants in our day to day life. The key highlight at Arogya Van is the ‘Aushadh Manav.’ This is a giant three dimensional layout of a human body in a resting posture. Each human organ is represented by a medicinal plant which is beneficial for that particular organ. So these plants are planted on the specific part of the body to make the visitors understand the specific plants used for therapeutic treatment of that particular organ. There are five gardens inside Arogya Van – Garden of Colours, Aroma Garden, Yoga Garden, Alba Garden and Leutea Garden. Indoor plants section has been created to spread awareness regarding the importance of interior landscape. Interior landscaping plays a vital role in providing a pleasant and tranquil environment in which one can walk and relax. It is a semi covered fabricated structure. Also to explore the wisdom of traditional healing in its true form at Arogya Van, Gujarat Forest Department has joined hands with Santhigiri Ashram from Kerala, an organization with more than 60 years of experience in the ancient treatment systems of Ayurveda, Siddha & Yoga. This venture caters to a holistic healthcare based on Ayurveda, Siddha, Panchakarma, Yoga, Marma & Naturopathy to the visitors from India and abroad. Therefore, come and experience the true traditional treatments at the serene atmosphere of Narmada valley at Arogya Van-Santhigiri Wellness Centre. This Arogya Van-Santhigiri Wellness Centre or Arogya Kutir provides therapeutic remedies and treatments like Dhara, Snehapanam, Sirovasti, Pizhichil, Udavarthanam, Marmachitiksa, Nasyam, karnapooranam, Tharpanam, Njavarrakizhi, Herbal Stream Bath, Rasayanchikitsa, Spinal Bath and Therapeutic Massages which are very popular in Kerala. While walking through this Arogya Van rather herbal garden, music is played to offer typical tropical forest surroundings.

Vishwa Van

It is a Global Forest and offers a natural aesthetic beauty. The thought of Vishwa Van was conceptualized by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, who after guiding the construction of Statue of Unity in just 46 months, envisioned the integrated development of Kevadia on the theme of Unity in diversity. Vishwa Van (a Global Forest) is home to herbs, shrubs and trees native to all 7 continents signifying the underlying theme of ‘Unity in Bio-diversity’ in global context as well. Vishwa Van symbolizes the life sustaining potion of forests in the context of all life forms in the planet. Vishwa Van has a diverse assemblage of flora representing every continent of the world. The vegetation is arranged in a way to resemble the natural forest of a particular zone. The motive is to educate the visitors about biogeography – the study of distribution of species and ecosystems in geographic space. The differences or similarities in the floral diversity can certainly be attributed to the continental drift phenomenon, which is attempted here. Planning and Implementation: Vishwa Van has an area of 5 acres, situated next to the Statue of Unity. The wavy borders of the blocks representing the continents are shaped to represent the outlines of continent’s map and are painted similar to the colours of the Olympic rings, specific to each continent. Self-explanatory signage elucidating the concept and associated information about the flora have been positioned at appropriate locations. Abodes of Dwellers- Structures representing the traditional abodes of dwellers from remotest corners of the world have been created here with a view to introducing visitors with their living. Such edifices at the sites are -Fiji House – Bure: Bure is the Fijian word for a wood-and-straw hut. Traditionally, ethnic Fijians live in two types of houses; a vale was the family house, while men’s houses (where circumcised males of the clan met, ate, and slept) were known as Bures. -Bali House:  The Balinese traditional house follows a strict ancient architectural guide which is a product of a blend of Hindu and Buddhist beliefs, fused with Austronesian animism, resulting in a house that is “in harmony” with the law of the cosmos of Balinese Hinduism. -African-Louisiana Conference Area: The beauty of the concept lies in the conglomeration of traditional houses in Africa with those of the orthodox designs from Louisiana. It’s a blend of aesthetic architectures of both the continents. -Maloca House: This structure is inspired from the traditional house of the indigenous Marubo tribe of Brazil. A Maloca is an ancestral long house used by indigenous people of the Amazon, notably in Colombia and Brazil. -Pagoda: A Pagoda is a tiered tower with multiple eaves, built in traditions originating as Stupa in historic South Asia and further developed in East Asia with respect to those traditions. A Souvenir shop, to take along the memories, has been setup. These shops are run by tribal self-help groups, which contributes to their livelihood.

Dino Trail

RAJASAURUS NARMADENSIS – THE DINOSAUR NATIVE TO NARMADA VALLEY Recent excavations in the Narmada valley, have revealed that Rajasaurus Narmadensis, an endemic species of dinosaur, was existing in the Narmada valley during Cretaceous period [also known as the ‘K-period’]. The K-period spanned between Jurassic period (145 million years ago) and Paleogene Period (66 million years ago). In the History – Rajasaurus Narmadensis is a species of carnivorous abelisaurid theropod dinosaur from the late Cretaceous of India. Not many of us are aware that India was once a home to a number of dinosaurs from the early Triassic to the late Cretaceous. Gujarat is one of the few states of India that contains a wealth of dinosaur fossilized remains. Rajasaurus is a genus of carnivorous abelisaurid theropod dinosaur from the Late Cretaceous of India, containing one species – Rajasaurus Narmadensis. The bones were excavated from the Lameta Formation (a sedimentary rock formation found in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra, India)  in the Gujarat state of Western India, probably inhabiting what is now the Narmada River Valley. A replica of the endemic dinosaur with the distinctive horn is created and exhibited for the visitors. The replica is about three times the estimated–original size; it measures 75 feet in length and 25 feet in height. This offers the visitors a glimpse into the evolution of the planet and mankind and is an attempt to create public awareness regarding the wealth of ancient flora and fauna of this area.
